W3C Verifiable Credential · Real-Time Verification
A Credential That Works at the Moment It Matters
Every LII certification produces a Digital Passport — a W3C Verifiable Credential that any employer can confirm independently in seconds, via QR scan or API query. It carries what a certificate cannot: independently assessed evidence, verifiable to any standard, available at any point in your career.

The Digital Passport Serves Two Audiences
Whether you hold an LII certification or need to verify one, the Digital Passport is the starting point.
For Certified Leaders
Store, Share and Present Your Credential
Every LII certification generates a Digital Passport automatically. Your credential is holder-controlled — you decide what to share and with whom. Use it on LinkedIn, in job applications, in board papers, and in any professional context where independently verified leadership capability matters.
For Employers and Verifiers
Verify Any LII Credential in Seconds
Any employer, recruiter, procurement team, or governance body can verify an LII credential independently — without contacting LII, without creating an account, and without waiting. Scan the QR code or enter the credential ID at verify.lii.institute. Real-time status. No intermediary.
A Certificate Is a Document. A Credential Is Infrastructure.
Most leadership qualifications produce a certificate. Certificates confirm that something happened. They do not give anyone else something they can independently verify. The distinction has been invisible for most professionals' careers — because there was no alternative. There is now.

LII Digital Passport
"A certificate requires someone to trust you. A credential gives them something to verify."
What Your Digital Passport Contains
The LII Digital Passport is built on the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model 2.0. It is structured, machine-readable, and carries far more information than a certificate — information that is accessible to any authorised verifier without contacting LII.
Holder Identification
Full name, LII candidate ID, and credential issue date. Identity is confirmed through the assessment process and linked to the credential record.
Level and Designation
The certification level achieved (CLP through CXL), the minimum experience standard at which it was assessed, and the associated LII membership status.
Assessment Basis
The four components assessed and their weightings: Capability Evidence Portfolio (40%), Professional Practice Review (20%), Strategic Project (20%), Panel Assessment (20%).
Current Status
Live validity status via W3C StatusList2021 — confirming whether the credential is currently active, suspended, or revoked. Status updates propagate within 60 seconds of any change.
CPD Renewal Record
Annual CPD renewal status — confirming that the holder has maintained active engagement with the professional standard. A credential that is renewed signals currency, not just historical achievement.
Interoperability
Built on W3C VC Data Model 2.0. Compatible with LinkedIn credential verification, HR talent platforms, and digital due diligence tools used by executive search, private equity, and board-level appointments.
How Verification Works
Verification is available to any employer, recruiter, or governance body — with no account required for basic public lookup. No call to LII. No waiting period.
The Holder Shares Their Passport
Every LII-certified leader holds a Digital Passport accessible at a unique URL on verify.lii.institute. The holder shares it as a direct link in their CV or application, as a QR code printed on their CV or business card, or via a standard credential-sharing invitation sent by LII on request.
The Employer Verifies in Seconds
The employer follows the link or scans the QR code and arrives at the live verification record at verify.lii.institute. They see the credential holder's name, certification level, assessment basis, date of issue, and current validity status — in real time. For bulk verification of multiple employees or candidates, the LII Employer API provides programmatic access to the same data at scale.
The Credential Record Is Confirmed
Verification is confirmed without any contact with LII and without any requirement to recognise or trust the programme the holder attended. The verification result is a cryptographically confirmed record — not an assertion. The standard applied to the holder is stated, not inferred. Status reflects the current position, not a historical one.
Public Verification — No Account Required
Anyone can verify a single LII credential at verify.lii.institute using the credential holder's unique ID or by following their shared link. Confirms: holder name, level, issue date, and current status.
Employer API — Verified at Scale
For organisations verifying multiple credentials — or integrating LII verification into HR and talent platforms — the LII Employer API provides authenticated programmatic access. Enquiries via employers@lii.institute.
Proof That Travels — Across Roles, Sectors, and Borders
For most professionals, career-defining decisions happen at moments when your proof of capability is either available or it isn't. The LII Digital Passport is built to be present at those moments — regardless of where you are in the world, or what organisation you're being considered by.
Because verification does not depend on the recipient recognising your programme or your provider — only on the LII standard — your passport works across borders and sectors in a way that a certificate cannot. An employer in Riyadh can confirm the same credential as one in London or Singapore, in the same time, against the same standard.
Your passport remains live through an annual CPD renewal process. A credential that is renewed signals that your engagement with the professional standard is current — not a historical achievement from years ago.
Six Levels — One Continuous Pathway
Your LII pathway spans your whole career — from CLP at first formal management responsibility through to CXL at executive and board level. Each new level produces a new passport, with your full certification history accessible.
Annual CPD Renewal
LII certifications are maintained through an annual Continuing Professional Development renewal. The passport indicates renewal status so verifiers can see whether the credential is current, not just historical.
W3C Interoperability
Built on the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model 2.0, the LII Digital Passport is compatible with LinkedIn verified credentials, digital HR systems, and due diligence platforms used by executive search and private equity firms.
Three Moments Where Proof Changes the Decision
The credential is only as useful as the decisions it changes. These are the three contexts where the LII Digital Passport produces a different outcome than a certificate can.
At Point of Appointment
A talent team can verify — before the interview — that a candidate's claimed leadership experience has been independently assessed at a defined level, against defined criteria, by independent assessors. The appointment decision is based on evidence, not inference.
Verify at verify.lii.institute — no account required
In Succession Planning
An HR Director building a capability map of their senior leadership tier uses the LII Employer API to pull verified data across an entire cohort — who holds what level, when credentials renew, and where gaps exist relative to planned leadership transitions. Succession planning becomes defensible to boards and audit committees.
Employer API — real-time data at scale
In Governance Due Diligence
An investor or board evaluating leadership capability requests verified credentials rather than CVs. The LII Digital Passport provides a verifiable record of independently assessed capability — the kind that matters to governance bodies and regulatory frameworks where self-reported leadership quality is structurally insufficient.
Compatible with governance and board-level scrutiny
For Professionals
Earn Your Digital Passport
The LII Digital Passport is issued upon successful completion of any LII certification. Begin with the level appropriate to your current leadership experience — from CLP at 2+ years of leadership accountability through to CXL at executive level.
